Need a good Marketer? Better Call Saul!

In Breaking Bad, Walter White may be the Emperor, but Saul Goodman is the better Marketer (and Salesperson, in one package). It’s all good man, he fulfills all the criteria to make a good marketer. Here’s the explanation:

Sees the big picture
Because if you don’t, you cannot connect the dots; and if you don’t connect the dots, you cannot spot an opportunity to win the case. He knows the needs and wants of different people involved in his case, and that is how he gets what he wants. Some people see that they are being marginalized, he sees an opportunity to sue. The lawyer pen is sometime indeed the sword of justice.

Saul (then Jimmy) matches ‘what he is good at’ (e.g. for whatever reason, old people really like him) with ‘an unfulfilled segment’, and so he specialized in will-writing for elderly. Despite his struggles, he does not settle in comfort, meaning he never closes an eye for opportunity (remember the first point?), and that’s how he spotted the Sandpiper Crossing case. That’s the beginning of your first one million dollar, baby.

Differentiates yourself
Do your target customers know you? Because you can bet his target clients know him. People who have watched his commercials, even they don’t need for a lawyer (yet) will remember him. He’s loud and bright and full of energy. He appears consistently every night, and he’s unique, because no lawyers speak like him. Never conform to norms. His catchy catch phrases catch the mind of his viewers. In comparison of the other boring lawyers, you are going to ask yourselves after you see his commercial “What happened to showmanship?”.

When you are in legal trouble or when you are not sure of your rights, what do you tell yourself? You’re goddamn right: “Better call Saul.”
After all, his target audience doesn’t need a criminal lawyer. They need a criminal lawyer.

Creates demand
What good is a Marketer if s/he cannot create (or help to create) demand? One way or another, from commercials to bingo nights, and usually the less obvious, the better it is.That is why creativity matters. You probably notice that his waiting rooms are often well populated. That was not by accident. That was him filling his Funnel. There isn’t a shortage of lawyers. Also, remember how he moved the Sandpiper residents to to sign off? That’s a high level Influencer Marketing work there.

So yeah, we need to learn about Marketing from a lawyer? This is a good answer to the question of and also a good illustration the the question of

Are you in Marketing trouble? Better think like Saul.
